New Jeans ‘Get Up’, Tops Billboard 200 Chart for 8 Consecutive Weeks
Syndrome girl group ‘NewJeans’ second mini album ‘Get Up’ is dominating the US Billboard main album chart ‘Billboard 200’.
According to Billboard on the 19th (local time), NewJeans’ ‘Get Up’ ranked 36th on the Billboard 200 as of the 23rd. Although it dropped eight spots from last week, it maintained its position in the top 40 for eight consecutive weeks. This album reached the top of the chart immediately after its debut. NewJeans became the second K-pop girl group to top this chart.
‘Get Up’ is setting various records for K-pop girl groups on the Billboard 200. Last week, it entered the top 30 of this chart for the first time as a K-pop girl group album for seven consecutive weeks. By staying on the chart for eight weeks as of this week, it became the fourth-generation K-pop girl group album that stayed the longest on this chart, along with ‘Leserafim’s first regular album ‘Unforgiven’.
Currently, the K-pop girl group album that has stayed on the Billboard 200 the longest is Blackpink’s first regular album ‘The Album’, which stayed for a total of 26 weeks. Blackpink’s second regular album ‘Born Pink’ followed with 13 weeks, ‘Twice’s 12th mini album ‘Ready to be’ with 11 weeks, Twice’s third regular album ‘Formula of Love: O+T=<3’ and 11th mini album ‘Between 1&2′ followed with 8 weeks. It is certain that NewJeans’ ‘Get Up’ will stay for more than 9 weeks, and it is expected to set a record as the sole fourth-place entry on the Billboard 200 for the longest period next week.
NewJeans’ ‘Get Up’ is also making strides on the detailed album charts within Billboard. In particular, it topped the ‘Billboard World Album’ chart for 7 consecutive weeks, setting the record for the longest-running K-pop girl group at the top of this chart. Additionally, it climbed to 6th place on the ‘Billboard Top Album Sales’ chart.
The songs on the album are also staying on the long-term on one of Billboard’s major charts, the ‘Global 200’. The pre-release and triple title track, ‘Super Shy’, ranked 24th and stayed for 10 weeks. The other title track, ‘ETA’, ranked 64th and stayed for 8 weeks. The previously released song, ‘OMG’, maintained its position on the chart for 37 weeks, ranking 186th.
