‘First K-pop girl group’ Blackpink wins for the second consecutive year
The group BLACKPINK has won the trophy for the second consecutive year at the “2023 MTV Video Music Awards” (MTV VMAs).
On the 12th (local time), BLACKPINK won the “Group of the Year” award at the “2023 MTV VMAs” held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA.
With this, BLACKPINK has made history as the first Asian female group to win this category at this award ceremony. Not only that, but BLACKPINK also won the title of “Best Choreography” with their pre-release single “Pink Venom” from their second full-length album.
Previously, BLACKPINK won the trophy for “Song Of The Summer” with “How You Like That” in 2020 and won two awards, “Best Metaverse Performance” and “Best K-Pop (Lisa Solo),” last year.
The “MTV VMAs” is considered one of the four major popular music awards ceremonies in the United States, along with the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards. It has a history of about 40 years since its inception in 1984 and awards prizes in about 24 categories. BLACKPINK was nominated in a total of six categories this year, setting a record for the most nominations by a group.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on their largest K-pop girl group world tour, “BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK],” which attracted approximately 1.75 million viewers across North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East. On September 16th and 17th, they will hold a concert at the Seoul Gocheok Sky Dome, becoming the first K-pop girl group to do so.
