군백기 없다..방탄소년단 ‘봄날’ 6년 만 역주행, 83개 지역 깜짝 1위 그룹 방탄소년단(BTS, RM 진 슈가 제이홉 지민 뷔 정국)의 ‘봄날’이 6년 만에 또 한번 글로벌 차트를 강타했다. 지난 13일 일본 오리콘 차트가 발표한 ‘데일리 디지털 싱글 랭킹'(12월 12일 자)에서 방탄소년단이 2017년 발매한 ‘WINGS 외전: YOU NEVER WALK ALONE’의 타이틀곡 ‘봄날’이 깜짝 1위에 올랐다. 이 차트의 순위권 밖에 자리했던 ‘봄날’이 순위가 급상승하며 1위로 직행한 것이다. 또한 ‘봄날’은 12일부터 14일 오전 8시까지 기준으로 미국, 일본, 독일, 영국, 프랑스 등을 비롯해 총 83개 국가/지역의 아이튠즈 ‘톱 송’ 차트 1위를 찍었다. 다수의 국가/지역 ‘톱 송’ 차트에서 연말을 맞아 캐럴(Carol) 장르가 강세를 보이는 가운데, 머라이어 캐리(Mariah Carey)의 메가 히트곡 ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’를 제치고 ‘봄날’이 차트 정상에 올라 눈길을 끈다. 이 같은 ‘봄날’의 역주행에는 아미(ARMY. 팬덤명)의 저력이 있었다. 지난 12일부로 전원 군 복무에 돌입한 방탄소년단의 오는 2025년 완전체 활동을 기다리는 팬들의 따뜻한 마음이 차트에 반영된 것으로 예상된다. 한편, ‘봄날’은 브릿 록(Brit-rock)적인 감성과 일렉트로닉 사운드가 결합된 얼터너티브 힙합(Alternative hip-hop) 장르의 곡으로, RM과 슈가가 작곡에 참여해 멀어진 친구와의 만남을 기다리며 희망을 잃지 않겠다는 메시지를 곡에 담았다. New Jean’s rips apart “Rollapalooza Chicago” in the US, “I will never forget it for my entire life”
K-pop girl group NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, Hyeeun) performed at the major music festival ‘Lollapalooza Chicago’ in the United States, about a year after their debut.
On the 3rd of August (local time), NewJeans became the first K-pop girl group to perform at ‘Lollapalooza’, held at Grant Park in Chicago. The festival, which is known as the ‘dream stage’ for artists and where world-famous pop star Billie Eilish is the headliner of the T-MOBILE stage.
As NewJeans had not been active in the local scene, fans’ attention was drawn to their stage. About 70,000 spectators responded with enthusiastic singing to their passionate performance.
In particular, NewJeans drew even more attention as their mini-album ‘Get Up’, which had placed three title tracks on the ‘Hot 100’, had also taken first place on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart released the previous day (as of August 5th).
From before the start of the performance, fans’ enthusiasm was high. At the pop-up booth “Bernieland,” a collaboration between New Jeans and Spotify, thousands of fans lined up to enjoy various events, and as the performance approached, tens of thousands of spectators crowded together to see New Jeans perform. They waited for New Jeans’ appearance while waving their light sticks, and New Jeans delivered an intense live performance of 12 songs for about 45 minutes without any sign of nervousness, leaving a strong impression.
As New Jeans took the stage, the audience sang along and danced along to the choreography. New Jeans, who opened with their debut song “Hype boy,” said, “I was really happy to hear that we could perform on the ‘Lollapalooza Chicago’ stage” and greeted the audience, saying, “We’ve prepared a great stage today, so please look forward to it.”
They then performed a series of megahits from their debut album “New Jeans,” including “Cookie,” “Hurt (remix ver.),” “Attention,” and the singles “Ditto” and “OMG,” showcasing their passionate and refreshing energy.
The highlight was the stage of six songs from their mini-album “Get Up.” From the first track “New Jeans” to the triple title tracks “Super Shy,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You,” as well as the interlude “Get Up” and the epilogue “ASAP,” New Jeans received a great response from the audience with their diverse performances, relaxed stage manners, and unwavering live skills.
New Jeans members communicated deeply with the audience with their fluent English skills. They said, “We were really happy to spend the second summer of New Jeans with you on this hot and beautiful Lollapalooza stage,” and expressed their gratitude, saying, “We will never forget this time with you. We hope to see you again next time.”
After the performance, “#LOLLAJEANS” trended second on Twitter US, indicating that the excitement had not easily subsided.
New Jeans announced that they will start their global journey in earnest with “Lollapalooza Chicago,” and they are scheduled to meet global music fans again at Japan’s famous music festival “Summer Sonic 2023” on the 19th.
