LE SSERAFIM’s relentless challenge as a top player in K-pop… What is the reason for their experimental collaborations?
LE SSERAFIM shook the global music market.
On the 8th, LE SSERAFIM (Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Heo Yoonjin, Kazuha, Hong Eunchae) released their second Japanese single “UNFORGIVEN (feat. Nile Rodgers, Ado) -Japanese ver.-” at 6 pm. The collaboration between Ado, a rising star in the Japanese music industry, and LE Sserafim, a top 4th generation K-pop girl group, caused a buzz in Japan, with coverage from major media outlets such as Nikkan Sports, Sankei Sports, Billboard Japan, and Oricon.
Looking at the lineup of musicians that LE Sserafim has recently worked with, various unique personalities stand out. From legendary American musician Nile Rodgers and rising American singer-songwriter UPSAHL to “experimental pop visionary” Rina Sawayama, Grammy-nominated Demi Lovato, Ado, who promotes herself as an image character, and up-and-coming artist imase, who has taken over the global short-form mobile video platform TikTok. Through collaborations that transcend genres and generations, LE Sserafim has created fresh and challenging results.
LUCY’s bold musical attempts reflect the team’s fearless identity. They broke down boundaries and prioritized choosing the most fitting artists to convey their message to more people, leaving an impression on music fans of various genres beyond K-pop.
In particular, they actively worked on remixing the title track of their regular album, “I Got U (feat. D. Meanor),” leading to its rise in the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts just three months after its release. They also achieved significant results with their collaboration with Imasayaka on “Jewelry (Prod. imase),” which rose to 3rd place on Japan’s representative music site Line Music’s daily song chart without any promotions.
The local media’s attention towards LUCY’s collaboration was also intense. A prominent American media outlet, “Grammy.com,” conducted a solo video interview with Nile Rodgers and the members, while the famous British music magazine NME focused on “I Got U (Rina Sawayama Remix)” and praised it.
On the 23rd, LUCY will release their second Japanese single, “UNFORGIVEN.” It includes three songs, including the pre-released title track, “UNFORGIVEN (feat. Nile Rodgers, Ado) -Japanese ver.-.”
